# Coordinate Plane Worksheets 5th Grade

5th graders know the alphabet by two-letter words, the same way you know that the English alphabet is made up of a few letters. You know the difference between the word “A” and “B” when they are placed next to each other. This same strategy can be used in order to teach students about coordinate plane functions. The first step in understanding these Plane coordinate functions is to understand that the two main functions that are done on the plane are called the distance function and the area function. When these functions are combined, the product that you get is called the Cartesian coordinate system.

## Coordinate Plane Worksheets 5th Grade

In order to practice plotting points on the Cartesian coordinate plane, you will need to use grid charts. Students need to use the grid charts that come with the coordinate plane worksheets. These grid charts allow you to plot points on the chart, along with their origin and destination, and determine which point lies in each quadrant. The first thing you will do in the first quadrant is to draw a straight line to represent the first point that you want to plot.

In the second quadrant, the directions of the plotted points must face east/west, north/south, or south/west. Once you have drawn the lines to indicate the locations of the first point, you will move to the third quadrant. The directions of the plotted points must face northwest, if you are plotting points west of the plane, or southeast if you are plotting points northwest of the plane. Students should learn how to read the grid lines. They should also learn to identify the horizontal lines that mark the four quadrants on the chart.
