Phonics are a combination of sounds made with the letters of the alphabet which create the sounds that we know as words. With phonics your child builds up his vocabulary by repeating the same sound across each line of each word. It is important that you build up your child’s knowledge of phonics over time, as they will most likely pick up the correct sounds as they start to hear them spoken by others. Your child’s auditory memory is extremely short lived though, and she will quickly forget how to use a sight word or how to pronounce a word correctly. For this reason it is especially important that you work with your child on developing these skills as early as possible.

Sight words and spelling worksheets are a great way to teach your child the sounds of each letter and word. Let us say that you have an A – number word. You could start by taking a piece of paper and writing the letter from A to Z over again. After doing this for a while you will have given your child sight words she can use to identify each letter and learn how to spell it out. When she has sight words down she can start to work on a number word by following the same procedure. Again over again until she has used this sight word 100 times.

Your child should also be shown pictures that represent the sight words that she hears. Pictures make learning more vivid for children and help them to remember the words. The more vivid the pictures the better. The Phonics Lesson teaches you to write the sight word out on a slip of paper so your child can see what she is spelling. This allows her to identify the letter on the paper and practice pronouncing it correctly.

Again you can use the Phonics Lesson to help you with this. As children grow older you can continue to work with your child on this area.

The Phonics Lesson is great for teaching new languages and is easy to adapt for foreign language speakers. Once your child has mastered the Phonics Lesson she can learn a whole new vocabulary of sound that will enrich her language. It is always best when the child begins learning a new language at an early age. This is especially true if your child is in school where they are required to have a certain level of the language. You want your child to have a head start rather than being left behind.
